Build a GPS helix antenna
December 2, 2005
Here's a good project for the weekend - build yourself a GPS helix antenna!
I built one of these for Hacking GPS and what surprised me was not only how simple it was (if you mark things out right the coils of wire just fall into place and dots of hot glue keeps the whole thing together) but also how effective it is - something like this costs only a few dollars to build but if you were to buy one you'd be looking at a lot more.
Even cutting the metal sheet for the ground plane wasn't all that tricky and nothing that you couldn't do with a big pair of scissors.
Check it out!
