GPS term - Basemap
December 23, 2005
What is a Basemap?
A basemap is the maps that a GPS receiver comes pre-installed with. These are usually low quality maps that show roads and rail networks, towns and cities, oceans, rivers and lakes and other locations such as airports.
Basemaps can usually be augmented by installing better quality maps onto the GPS (bear in mind that this usually required you to buy additional software).
