January 27, 2006

Did you buy a Magellan eXplorist 100, 200 or 300 and which that it had a way to connect it to a PC?

The Magellan eXplorist 100, 200 and 300 doesn't come with a PC connection port but it's possible to jury rig a connection.  All you need is:

  • A cable with a 9-pin serial port connector
  • USB connector
  • One MAX-232 chip
  • Dip switch for the chip
  • Resistor (1 - 5 Ohms)
  • Five capacitors (0.33 - 1 microFarad)
  • Bendy wire

Details on how to build this appears here.

Enjoy!
