Advantages of SiRFstarIII
March 23, 2006
What are the advantages of buying a GPS that makes use of the SiRFstarIII chipset over other chipsets?
The advantages are twofold:
- Faster signal processing
Having a GPS unit capable of faster signal processing not only means a more efficient GPS that draws less power but it also means that that the GPS receiver is fast enough and clever enough to be able to distinguish between GPS signals received from the satellites and those from multipath reflection (signals reflected from other surfaces). - Faster Acquisition times
No one wants to hang around waiting for their GPS to get a signal lock. Using the SiRFstarIII chipset means that you get great time to first fix (TTFF) and a fast reacquisition of signal if you do lose it momentarily.
