Phillips to start making GPS units

June 21, 2006

Phillips is the next big name to enter the GPS market.

Phillips is planning to release three new consumer GPS receivers, with prices starting at $500.

This isn't the first time that Phillips has dipped their toe into the GPS market - they first did it 7 years ago, and quickly abandoned the idea.  Given that they are up against big names like Garmin, Magellan and TomTom, I think that this could be a rough ride for them again.
